Celebrate the New Year with a traditional Osechi seafood box set

Osechi Box Set

For the first time, NISADE is very excited to offer our guests traditional Osechi box sets to enjoy over the New Year season.

The Osechi is a traditional New Year meal designed for sharing and served in a specially crafted box. Each box contains carefully selected Rebunese products some of which are sourced from the northern most regions of the Japanese sea.

Originally designed to allow maximum family time during this special time of year, these highly sought after sets have continued to become a traditional custom among many Japanese households. Many of the dishes hold special meaning attaining to good luck, wealth and happiness in the new year.

  • Black soybeans(黒豆 ) – inducing the ability to work hard for the coming year.
  • Herring roe pickled with white soy sauce(数の子白醤油漬 ) – denotes fertility blessing you with many children.
  • Sweetly seasoned chestnuts and sweet potato paste(栗きんとん)- the golden colour of chestnuts will bring you good luck and prosperity.
  • Red and white steamed fish paste(紅白市松かまぼこ)- red and white are celebratory colours in Japan and you can often see these colours on banners at festivals and events like school graduations.
  • Rolled omelette mixed with fish paste(伊達巻)- because this dish looks like a scroll it is said to bring scholarship and culture.
  • Boiled Botan shrimp (produced in Rebun Island)(ボタンエビの桜蒸し)- the curve in the shrimps back is noted as similar to that of the elderly hunched over, therefore symbolises longevity.

Start planning your New Year celebrations and pre order any of the four Osechi box sets listed below.
